About the Resilience Toolkit
HeadStart Kent have developed a School Toolkit for Resilience and Emotional Wellbeing. This toolkit guides schools through the process of celebrating good practice already in place to support resilience and wellbeing, but also encourages schools to assess their current approach, identify any gaps and put actions in place to develop this further.
At the end of the process, schools can apply for the Kent Award for Resilience and Emotional Wellbeing, to recognise their hard work in developing their approach to resilience and wellbeing.
HeadStart Kent have also developed a Community Resilience Toolkit, which is new and improved for 2021.
The School Resilience Toolkit and the Community Resilience Toolkit have been based on 8 key principles from the Public Health England paper “Promoting children and young people’s emotional health and wellbeing: a whole school and college approach” (2021). A whole school or whole setting approach ensures the resilience and wellbeing of everybody (young people, families and staff) is promoted and supported and can lead to:
- Improved wellbeing of young people, staff and families
- Improved learning and attainment
- The development of social and emotional skills
- Prevention of mental health problems
- Improved behaviour.
Ultimately, a whole school or whole setting approach enables a positive and universal focus on wellbeing.
These Toolkits provide the opportunity to reflect during the assess stage, plan actions and put these into practice, and continually review impact and outcomes (assess, plan, do, and review cycle of continuous improvement). They take schools and community organisations step by step through a whole setting approach to resilience and provides all resources to complete the toolkit.
