Information for families on autism and ADHD in children: a support handbook and films
This handbook is for Kent families who would like to know more about autism and Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) in children.
The NHS and Kent County Council developed this resource with help from parents and carers of children waiting for an assessment for autism and/or ADHD in the Canterbury area. The parents and partners involved in developing this Handbook wanted to make sure it has information that families would find useful.
The handbook includes sections on where to go for help with health, education, rights and benefits, and a listing of local and national organisations.
As well as the handbook, in February 2020, Dr. Rachel Hussey was filmed delivering an information session to families who had a child waiting for an autism assessment in the Canterbury area. Dr. Hussey is a Consultant Clinical Psychologist who works within the Children and Young People’s Mental Health Service. Dr. Hussey talks about why children may see the world differently, or behave differently and gives guidance on how to support your child is the areas of sleep, emotional regulation and anxiety.
Please see below for both a downloadable version of the handbook, and links to access the three filmed sessions.
